Mahantango Creek Fishing Report

Mahantango Creek

Just South of PA Route 104 near the Snyder Juniata county line. There is a ball park and a covered bridge. Watch out for buggies!
I had just returned to Central PA and thought I would cast a line in this fine looking stream.

I caught one small brown. Later, I caught a 21 inch very fat brown weighing about 2 pounds-I was amazed as the home I have rented is less than a mile from yhis spot in Oriental.

Mahantango Creek (West Branch) near Oriental Catch

  • # of Fish Caught: 4
  • Water Type: freshwater
  • Type of Fish: Brown Trout
  • Fish Length (Avg): 12 inches
  • Fish Length (Max): 21 inches
  • Fish Weight (Max): 2 lbs. 4 oz.
  • Bait Type: Nightcrawler Check Prices
  • Bait Details: Very cold so used a worm. Hungry fish under the bridge near the ball field. A local indicated these are stocked by the gun club.

The large brown was VERY impressive for a small stream. Markings indicate a stocker holdover. Very nice fish for this area.
  • Location Details: Off US 15 north of Liverpool make the turn on route 104. Proceed and turn left at the sign to "Oriental". (So named as it was a Chinese camp that worked on the PA Canal).

Make a right at the old OX bar (my house) and the store. Proceed a mile and turn left when you see the covered bridge. I park at the lot at the small athletic field there-fish upstream and below the bridge.
